Tilt

Welcome to the webpage of the research project entitled Bine ați venit pe pagina de internet al proiectului de cercetare intitulat "Study of the arterial hypotension associated with neurocardiogenic syncope by borderline interdisciplinary research aimed toward a new classification and a new therapeutic approach" within the frameworks of Planul National de Cercetare, Dezvoltare si Inovare II, project type IDEI no. 335/2007, CNCSIS code ID_1125. In this project, a team formed by a cardiologist, an internist, a neurologist and a physiologist will investigate the mechanisms of the neurocardiogenic or vasovagal syncope which is associated with no structural heart disease. We also aim to investigate the diagnostic value of the tilt table testing and to perform a classification of the hemodynamic response patterns focused on the orthostatic hypotension. Another target is to evaluate by a randomized study the efficacy of a new treatment method which uses the external counter pressure applied over the capacitance vessels of the legs and of the abdomen by elastic garments in order to increase the venous return to the heart.

Short description

Syncope is a borderline symptom related to the cardiovascular, internal medicine and neurological pathology. Its prognostic ranges from mild to severe being related to the underlying cause as well as to the appropriate therapeutic approach. If the syncope is caused by an arrhythmia or a structural cardiac disease the treatment aims the amelioration of the lesion but if the syncope is associated with no structural heart disease further interdisciplinary examinations are needed and the therapeutic approach is not yet well defined.

In this project, a team-cardiologist, internist, neurologist, physiologist- will investigate the mechanisms of the neurocardiogenic or vasovagal syncope which is associated with no structural heart disease.

The results of this study will be compared and merged with those of international referral centers for syncope to which the project director is strongly related by a long-lasting and comprehensive cooperation, leading to new therapeutically protocols.
